1. Don't over call. Do just enough to get the birds attention and to finish them. Clucking and moaning is the key to successful field calling.
2. Most hunters clean
there gun regularly, but
what about your call?
To properly clean your
call pull the barrel end
from the mouthpiece. Run
luke warm water through
the mouthpiece end to remove
debris. Run luke warm water
through the exhaust end
of the endpiece while gently
lifting the reed up with
your thumb. This will remove
and debris caught under
the reed which can effect
the performance. Do not
take the tone board and
wedge out unless you are
very familiar with tuning
a call. A good coat of
automotive wax can help
protect the surface finish
of your call.
3. Develop a couple
of effective comeback calls. Do not over use them and
blow them only enough to
turn the geese back. When
the geese turn back go immediately
to your greeting work. Saving
the comeback call will make
it much more effective to
use over when the geese circle
multiple times.
4. A flag is an
essential piece of equipment
is any
goose hunters bag. For those
distant geese leave the call
alone and pick up the flag.
5. Practice, practice,
practice. Good goose callers
are made, not born. Practicing
in the off season can reap
rewards when the season rolls
around.
